Does anyone HONESTLY clean their Make-Up Brushes?

Up until just recently, I never knew you were supposed to clean your make-up brushes..gross..i know.  I would just throw them out when they got dirty, for some reason it didn't occur to me that I could wash them!

You should be washing your brushes every 2-3 weeks.  There are a ton of different ways online that will tell you to use vinegar, or olive oil when cleaning them.  I'm here to tell you NOT to use anything but a brush shampoo, or a mild soap. (baby shampoo works great!)  The reason you don't want to use vinegar is because it can damage your bristles, and shorten the life of your brushes.  I'm honestly not sure if olive oil would be damaging...but even if you rinse the brush very well, there's going to be some oil leftover. And be honest.. do you REALLY want that on your face? I know I don't..

So all you need to clean your brushes is
  • warm water
  • brush shampoo or baby shampoo
  • a small bowl or cup
  • a small hand towel
Now what you're going to want to do is fill the dish up with some warm water, and about a tablespoon of soap.  Take your brushes and swirl them around in the water.  If your brushes are crazy dirty, I suggest taking a touch of soap on the palm of your hand and working up a lather.

*You may need to repeat these steps a few times if your brushes are super dirty*

Make sure you rinse all the soap off your brushes, but be very careful not to get the metal part of the brush wet, as it can soften the glue holding your bristles in!

Once you're finished washing them, you'll need to lay them flat on a towel over night.

That's it!  Not so bad, huh?

Remember, clean those brushes!
